Indian Register Of Shipping Classed ‘INS Sandhayak’ Delivered By GRSE To Indian Navy

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd., a major Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, presented “INS Sandhayak” to the Indian Navy on December 4, 2023. The vessel was built under the Indian Register of Shipping classification and is the ‘first of class’ of a series of four such vessels being built by GRSE for the Navy. INS Sandhayak is a reincarnation of an earlier ship of the same name, which was also the ‘first of class’ in a series of survey vessels built for the Navy by GRSE and decommissioned in June 2021.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd., a major Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, completed the construction of the ship.

The Certificate of Class granted by IRS was presented to Commodore P R Hari (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director, GRSE, on this occasion by Mr. Saikat Roychowdhury, Regional Manager (East Coast of India & Bangladesh). The latter attributed the effective delivery to strong collaboration and synergy between the GRSE and IRS teams, especially in difficult conditions. The fact that the GRSE-IRS teams continued to work even throughout the pandemic to guarantee that India receives its first survey vessel of this magnitude as soon as possible is very noteworthy.
